 SPINE SURGERY
.SECOND OPINION CANADA

A private consulting service for you, the adult spine and back care patient.

Back pain...

Pain while walking...

Sciatica...

Spinal Stenosis...

Weak rubber legs...

Numbness and tingling...

These are all common problems often originating in the spine and generally well “managed” with medications, physical therapies and sometimes spinal injections. But sometimes that “management” isn’t very effective, and one might consider surgery. Even if some of your doctors have told you there’s nothing to be done!

CAN YOU BE SURE?

Waits to see a surgeon in Canada are long. The consultation is often rushed in the middle of a busy hospital clinic where you may see the doctor for a few minutes, too often after a student or nurse takes your history and examines you briefly and deems the problem “nonsurgical”. The surgeon usually agrees. Receiving the consult note, your family doctor can only agree as well.

If you are offered a procedure, the waits for surgery are even longer. Do you understand the problem, what is the procedure, what are the odds of success? Results are too often disappointing.

Most of us accept all this, and if offered surgery we suffer through the wait lists and take our chances. A few look outside the country and spend big dollars to jump the queue for expensive assessments and care – still too often with bad results.

When you’re not sure…

Spine Surgery Second Opinion Canada may be able to help.

 To help you, the patient
  • clearly understand the problem in your spine, what is causing your pain and other spine symptoms;

  • understand whether your problem could be helped by surgery or not, and what the future likely holds for your spine with or without surgery;

  • understand what might be done in a surgical procedure to relieve you;

  • understand the chances of success with surgery;

  • understand the timing of healing and recovery after spine surgery;

  • understand the risks of surgery;

  • understand the available surgical treatment alternatives;

  • be sure about the surgical treatment decision you are making.
